Measured water discharges in the main river bed of the Ameskar Valley (Assif-n-Ait-Ahmed) at station Cascade

DOI

The water level data is corrected for offset errors as accurately as possible. Since there have been registrated longer periods with constant measurement values, the mechanical parts of the instrument (weight, swimmer and roller inside the tube) seem to be susceptible to environmental disturbances, which result in stuck weight, swimmer or roller.Further more, movement of material within the river bed (stones, vegetation) shifts measurement values up or down. When identified, these errors have been replaced by plausible values. There is loss of data at different times caused by maintenance of the gauge and by undefined errors in registration electronics.Runoff in m**3/s is calculated with corrected water level data and a formula describing the relation between water level and runoff volume. The latter was measured and calculated from repeated measurements of river bed dimensions and water speed (with Nautilus) at various points of the river bed. A formula was developed for diffent water levels and allows the calculation of volume on the base of water level data. The 10min-data was averaged to daily data. In Juli 2003, the "Cascade" gauge was destructed during a heavy rainfall with flooding. In September 2003, the gauge was installed 500 m west of the former site with similar site attributes.Dataset created by IMPETUS subproject B2. IMPETUS data set ID: 536
