Magnetic fluctuations in an FeSe superconductor (Tc = 40K) intercalated with alkali metal hydroxide layers

Superconductors have many practical applications, especially in technologies that require high magnetic fields, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Efforts to find new and better superconducting materials are currently targeting materials that incorporate magnetic ions, such as copper and iron. There is evidence that magnetic interactions enhance superconductivity in these materials. We have synthesized a new class of iron-based superconductors which can be chemically tuned by intercalation of positive ions and different molecules between iron selenium layers. We propose an experiment to study the spectrum of dynamical magnetic fluctuations in a superconductor in which iron selenide layers are separated by alkali metal hydroxide layers. We aim to find out how the magnetic spectrum compares with that of other iron selenide materials and with current theories.
