Magnons in the two dimensional Ising antiferromagnet, FePS3

DOI

We wish to study the magnon dynamics in FePS3, which appears to be a good approximation of a two-dimensional Ising magnet on a honeycomb lattice with spin 2. Numerous theory studies have been published on exactly this Hamiltonian, predicting the possible presence of tricritical points and quantum phase transitions. FePS3 is an excellent candidate for a model system to test these theories, and a sound knowledge of the magnon dynamics is now required. We have an idea of the magnon dynamics from powder measurements, but now wish to use MERLIN to confirm the dynamic structure factor using a single crystal.
