As a novelty within Swiss and international communal and political science, this project sought to comprehensively explore municipal party organizations in a comparative way, identifying the conditional factors that affect their specific characteristics such as membership structures, internal organization, decision-making processes, external activities, political influence, and the like. In descriptive terms, an attempt was made to draw up an up-to-date analysis of the local parties in Switzerland. In explanatory terms, the specific characteristics of communal parties were examined in relation with the demographic and socio-economic structure as well as the political-administrative organization of the municipality.

Als Novum innerhalb der schweizerischen und internationalen Kommunal- und Politikwissenschaft wurde in diesem Projekt angestrebt, kommunale Parteiorganisationen in umfassender Weise komparativ zu erforschen und dabei die Bedingungsfaktoren zu identifizieren, die ihre spezifischen Merkmale wie Mitgliederstrukturen, Binnenorganisation, Entscheidungsprozesse, Aussenaktivitäten, politische Einflusstellung u. a. determinieren. In deskriptiver Hinsicht wurde versucht, eine aktuelle Zustandsdiagnose der Ortsparteien in der Schweiz zu erstellen. In explanatorischer Hinsicht wurden die spezifischen Merkmale kommunaler Parteien auf ihre Bedingtheit durch die demographische und sozio-ökonomische Struktur sowie die politisch-administrative Organisation der Gemeinde geprüft.
