The Dutch Doctoral Database (D3) is a database of researchers who obtained a PhD in the Netherlands between 1990 and 2021, and their publications. These data primarily haul from the (now discontinued) Netherlands Academic Research and Collaborations Information System (NARCIS), which was the primary metadata portal for researchers and their work in the Netherlands. These data are enriched with information extracted from other online research archives. At the scholar-level, variables such as receipt of an NWO Veni, Vidi, and Vici grant are added, as well as promotions to associate and full professor. At the publications level, we attached field classifications to determine scholars' disciplinary orientation. The open-access files are anonymized. To cross-link this dataset with alternative datasources, identifiers such as names or DOIs may be needed. For this purpose, we can also grant access to the non-anonymized dataset, under the condition that this request is motivated with a specific research proposal.
