The aim of this experiment is to measure the load transfer between the matrix and the precipitates in an advanced nickel¿base superalloy as a function of particle size distribution during in-situ loading at 500 and 750°C. In previous in-situ loading experiments on ENGIN-X we have seen strong indication that the particle size distribution has an affect on the level of load transfer observed between the two phases, particularly when testing the material at 500 and 750°C. However, in some cases we only managed to plastically deform the material by 1% or we had problems with beam loss or the loading rig and were forced to unload the sample during the experiment. Therefore we need to repeat a number of loading experiments to have the required high quality data to develop plasticity models that can provide answers about changes in deformation mechanisms.
