A new material, Ba2LuMoO6, has been proposed to be an example of a valence bond glass. It bears numerous similarities in bulk measurements to Ba2YMoO6, which was the first valence bond glass, and which was observed to have a singlet-triplet excitation using inelastic neutron scattering. However, recent muon spectroscopy results indicate differences in the dynamics of the two systems. We therefore propose to study Ba2LuMoO6 with inelastic neutron scattering using the Merlin chopper spectrometer, which is optimised for the study of weak scattering, as present in s=1/2 systems, and which will allow us to perform wide energy surveys via rep-rate mode for this first INS study.
