Room temperature biskyrmions in non-chiral thin film MnNiGa

DOI

Skyrmions are topologically protected, nano-sized objects which have been shown to exist in the spin textures of a range of magnetic materials and are currently under intense investigation due to their potential in spintronic applications. Recently, biskyrmions, a new type of skyrmion formed by the combination of two skyrmions of opposed spin helicities, have been observed in thin plates of MnNiGa using Lorentz TEM. Here we propose to use polarised neutron reflectometry to establish the existence of room temperature biskyrmions in sputtered MnNiGa thin films. This would constitute a significant advance towards the use of skyrmions in practical applications.
