Exploring the spin dynamics in the first S = 1 ¿Haldane spaghetti¿ system: LiNiVO4

DOI

We propose to explore the low energy excitation spectrum of the LiNiVO4, a system which we believe is a previously unobserved realization of a random distribution of 1D antiferromagnetic Heisenberg S=1 loops or chains of different lengths. Due to the peculiar distribution of the Ni2+ (S=1) and Li+ (S=0) ions in the crystal, this manifestly 3D system is expected to consist of a collection of weakly-interacting quasi-1D loops and chains, realizing a novel concept of the ¿Haldane spaghetti¿ system. The aim of this work is to probe the existence of a gap in the excitation spectrum and its evolution with temperature for this candidate of Haldane spaghetti system.
