We will investigate a series of aluminophosphate systems, in particular related to small pore materials and determine the short and medium range order structures and more importantly the nature of pore-size in one-dimensional channel and 3-dimensional pore systems in the as-synthesised and activated materials. For this purpose we will use POLARIS to measure high quality total scattering data, which when processed will provide the necessary information on the nature of the short, medium and long range order and the pore structure of the nanoporous materials. We will prepare these materials through hydrothermal processing and activate them through calcination methods. We will investigate the material during calcination to determine the generation of active state and subsequently when exposed to D2O vapours at RT and ca. 100°C temperature to understand the differences in the structures.
