Sea-surface (based on Globigerinoides ruber sensu stricto Mg/Ca ratios) and thermocline (based on Pulleniatina obliquiloculata Mg/ca ratios) temperature reconstruction from sediment core MD05-2904 located in the northern SCS for the last 25,000 years.
(1) Mixed-layer water temperatures were derived by converting the Mg/Ca of G. ruber to temperatures by means of the species-specific calibration for G. ruber (white; size fraction 250-350 µm; Dekens et al., 2002): Mg/Ca (mmol/mol) = 0.38 exp[0.09T (°C)]. (2) Thermocline water temperature based on P. obliquiloculata was calculated using the species-specific calibration equation by Anand et al. (2003): Mg/Ca (mmol/mol) = 0.328exp[0.090T (°C)].
