30 T High Magnetic Field Neutron Diffraction on Multi-ferroic TbMnO3

DOI

The main target of the proposal is to determine the magnetic phase diagram of multi-ferroic compound TbMnO3 in extremely high magnetic fields around 30 T by using a pulsed magnet system installed in WISH spectrometer in the 2011. Recently, a new ferroelectric associated with the strong magneto-dielectric correlation attracts much attentions. The relationship between the magnetic structure and the ferroelectricity is the key to understand the origin of multi-ferroics. TbMnO3 is one of the most well known multi-ferroics and the phase diagram had been understood in low fields region below 15 T. However, there is a new high field phase above 28 T, in which a drastic change of ferroelectricity is observed. To reach the full understanding of this most important model system of multiferroic, it is necessary to determine the magnetic structure of the high field phase by neutron diffraction.
