This dataset provides loss-on-ignition (LOI) data for the Early Weichselian sediment sequence retrieved from Sokli (Finland) in 2002. LOI values are expressed as percentages and presented against depth (m). The LOI dataset was used to provide information on Early Weichselian landscape dynamics at Sokli (Engels et al., 2010). A total of 136 samples were analysed for LOI. A LECO TGA-601 was used to determine the loss-on-ignition of the sediments. Samples of 0.2 to 4.4 g wet weight (average=2.2 g) were heated to 105°C until a constant (dry) weight was achieved. Thereafter, the temperature was raised to 335°C and all organic matter was burned in an atmosphere of 100% oxygen. In order to compare our results with the classic loss-on-ignition methods, the temperature was further increased to 550°C, after which the weight of the residue was used to calculate the loss-on-ignition following Heiri et al. (2001). The analyses were performed in the laboratories of VU University Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
