Key goals of the marine-geological research programme of expedition PS115/2 were detailed reconstructions of the long- and short-term climate history of the Arctic Ocean during Quaternary and pre-Quaternary times. The long sediment PS115/2_57-1 was taken by a Gravity Corer with a penetration weight of 1.5 t and a barrel length of 10 m.
