Residual stress measurements on W-W joints for nuclear fusion applications

DOI

Materials of interest for nuclear fusion applications (like for instance W and W alloys) require special properties in terms of mechanical resilience and radiation hardness. Components like W-W and W-steel joints have to be characterised for such applications, also in terms of residual stress induced in the brazing in different conditions of preparation. However, there is a lack of data about residual stress in W-W and W-steel brazing. We propose to perform a series of measurements on W-W joints realised by brazing in different conditions. Such joints are prepared by King Juan Carlos University in Madrid and they are part of a wider research and characterisation activity in the field of fusion materials under the EFDA coordination.
