TDR measurements during SwabianMOSES campaign 2023

DOI

During the mobile CRNS rover surveys, in-situ soil moisture measurements were conducted using a handheld time-domain reflectometry (TDR) soil moisture sensor (Hydrosense II, Campbell Scientific, Inc.). These measurements were carried out next to the stationary time-domain transmission sensors and at several other randomly selected locations within the Lindach catchment area. Due to the increased sensitivity of the CRNS rover next to the sensor and in the upper soil zone (Köhli et al., 2015), the TDR measurements were taken by inserting the 12 cm TDR probe vertically into the soil. These In-situ TDR-measurements were taken, to obtain soil moisture data along the CRNS rover track, in addition to that obtained from the stationary time-domain transmission sensors.
