Uncovering the biosynthetic pathway for lasonolide A

Lasonolide A is a potential anti-cancer drug candidate isolated from Forcepia sp. sponge. However, its lack of supply limits its transition into clinical trials. The aim of this study was to identify and characterize the biosynthetic gene cluster responsible for the production of lasonolide A in Forcepia sp. sponge metagenome. The study also aimed to uncover and characterize the bacterium harboring lasonolide A biosynthetic gene cluster.
