Magnetic Ordering in the Heavy Fermion CePtZn

DOI

In rare-earth containing metals, there is a strong competition between the tendency of these systems to magnetically order or form a superconducting state, mirroring in many ways the behavior of high-temperature superconductors that are of great technological importance today. In this work we will use muon spin relaxation techniques to study the onset of magnetic order at low temperatures in a new family of these compounds. Through this work we hope to gain a better understanding of the complex many-body interactions which govern the macroscopic properties of these materials, and in doing so, develop parallels which may help us explain exotic phenomena in a variety of materials systems.
