Project 74-4/768 Proceeding and Generalization of Materials of Parametric Drilling on Arctic Islands (the Heiss-1 parametric drill hole)Reasons for drilling:1. Study of the geological-geophysical section for providing referencing of geophysical materials.2. Establishing structure of the sedimentary cover, rock properties and composition.3. Creation of a reference regional geological-geophysical section through detailed correlation of sections of Mesozoic and Paleogene rocks with the rocks drilled in the hole.Technical results:The hole has penetrated the section of 3344 m and stopped in Triassic deposits.Scientific results:1. Stratigraphic sequence (based on different faunal groups, leaf flora, sporen, pollen) of the section has been carried out.2. The section is mainly composed of silty clayey rocks. Two rock complexes have been defined in the section. Thickness of the lower complex is 1929 m, of the upper complex 1415 m. The section is almost similar to one in the hole Northern-1 drilled in 74 km to the north-east.3. Triassic terrigenous deposits lay horizontally. Middle Triassic deposits formed in marine conditions during a transgressive cycle, Upper Triassic during a regressive cycle.4. Seven intrusions (sills) of gabbro-dolerite occur within the section. Their thickness along the borehole varies from 20 to 73 m; the aggregate thickness is 274 m. The sills intruded into the sedimentary deposits in the Middle Jurassic and Late Cretaceous.
