Studies of off specular relfectivity in YBa2Cu3O7(YBCO) and La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 (LCMO) bilayers

The origin of magnetic exchange at the interface of complex magnetic oxides is becoming an important consideration when developing thin film devices. Recent technical developments have allowed detailed information upon the magnetic properties of the bulk and interfacial regions of thin films. We have recently performed similar experiments and demonstrated that magnetic correlations in optimally doped bilayers of YBCO/LCMO exist in the normal phase of the material but can be suppressed by an adjacent ferromagnetic layer when an apparent critical thickness of the superconducting layer is increased. This suggests the exchange coupling is modified in the psuedogap regime. We would like to investigate the magnetic interfaces on polref for three days using polarized neutron reflectivity.
