Study of the temperature evolution of the structure factor S(q) (and dynamical properties) of Tellurium based materials that show a negative thermal expansion (NTE) and a liquid-liquid continuous transition in a range of temperatures of about 200K. We will focus on the temperature evolution of prepeak (around 1 Å-1) and second main peak of S(q), which are two signatures of the Peierls distortion. We have shown by INS on IN6 (exp. 6-03-411), on the same compounds, that the NTE is accompanied by a softening of the vibrational modes when temperature increases: a gain of vibrational entropy severely reduce the amplitude of the Peierls distortion. During the first part of experiment 6-03-411, we encountered severe difficulties with the D4 furnace (see exp. report) that prevents the diffraction data from being analyzed.
