Validation of an incremental contour method

DOI

The contour method of residual stress measurement is increasingly being applied to complex engineering components. However, errors in measured stress can be introduced if significant plasticity develops when the component of interest is cut. A new incremental cut contour method has been developed at The Open University with the potential to eliminate plasticity errors in such measurements. The proposed experiment on a welded benchmark test specimen is designed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the incremental cut contour method.
