We aim to determine the ligand field parameters of the [HoPc2]¿ complex belonging to the family of lanthanide double decker (Ln=Dy3+,Ho3+,Tb3+) single-molecule magnets (SMM), which retain their magnetisation in zero field. In a previous experiment, we observed magnetic transitions for the [DyPc2]¿ complex on MARI at ISIS (RB1010134) and we intend to extend measurement series to the [HoPc2]¿ complex. Although the ligand field parameters were determined by fitting NMR and susceptibility data, these results might not be correct because of the overparametrisation. The direct observation of the magnetic transitions in [HoPc2]¿ by means of inelastic neutron scattering (INS) will provide a careful characterisation of the low lying energy levels and the understanding of the origin of the magnetic anisotropy in Ln double deckers for the developing of improved SMMs.
