Since 2003, researchers associated with the Institute for the Study of Protest and Social Movements (Institut für Protest- und Bewegungsforschung, ipb, http://protestinstitut.eu) have conducted surveys at demonstrations. This study is part of this ongoing series. The aim of the study is to gain insights into the composition and attitudes of participants at two peace demonstrations held on the first an- niversary of the Russian war against Ukraine in 2023. The study focuses particularly on participants’ views regarding the war and the German government’s response to it, as well as on their socio-de- mographic characteristics and political attitudes. The demonstrations took place on 24 February 2023 in Berlin. According to newspaper reports, around 10,000 people participated in the rally in solidarity with Ukraine (hereafter Solidarity Rally), organized by the Zentrum Liberale Moderne [Center for Liberal Modernity], a political think tank, in cooperation with Vitsche, a Ukrainian diaspora organization. In contrast, approximately 400 people attended the rally organized by the Friedenskoordination Berlin [Peace Coordination Berlin], the Ber- lin section of the traditional German peace movement (hereafter Peace Rally).
Seit 2003 führen Forschende des Instituts für Protest- und Bewegungsforschung (ipb, http://protestinstitut.eu) Umfragen bei Demonstrationen durch. Diese Studie ist Teil dieser fortlaufenden Reihe. Ziel der Studie ist es, Einblicke in die Zusammensetzung und Einstellungen der Teilnehmerinnen zweier Friedensdemonstrationen zu gewinnen, die am ersten Jahrestag des russischen Krieges gegen die Ukraine im Jahr 2023 stattfanden. Die Studie konzentriert sich insbesondere auf die Ansichten der Teilnehmerinnen zum Krieg und zur Reaktion der deutschen Regierung darauf sowie auf ihre soziodemografischen Merkmale und politischen Einstellungen. Die Demonstrationen fanden am 24. Februar 2023 in Berlin statt. Zeitungsberichten zufolge nahmen rund 10.000 Menschen an der Solidaritätskundgebung für die Ukraine (im Folgenden „Solidaritätskundgebung”) teil, die vom politischen Think Tank Zentrum Liberale Moderne in Zusammenarbeit mit der ukrainischen Diaspora-Organisation Vitsche organisiert wurde. Im Gegensatz dazu nahmen etwa 400 Menschen an der Kundgebung teil, die von der Friedenskoordination Berlin, dem Berliner Ableger der traditionellen deutschen Friedensbewegung, organisiert wurde (im Folgenden „Friedenskundgebung“).
