Temperature and field dependencies of magnetic excitations in Frustrated Spin-2 Chain System Ca3Co2O6

DOI

The compound Ca3Co2O6 is considered to be a model system for the triangular latticeantiferromagnets. Ferromagneticintrachain and antiferromagnetic interchain interactions, combined with a triangular lattice of spinchains gives rise to a geometrical frustration. We have recently observed a dispersive magnonbranch, propagating along the chain direction, characterized by a spin gap of ~27 meV atthe zone center and the magnon bandwidth of 3.5 meV. The aim of the proposed work is to investigate the origin of the magnetization steps by measuring the magnetic excitations in the magnetizationplateau region, with magnetic field field along the chain direction. Theapplication of magnetic field is expected to shift the magnetic excitationspectrum. Besides, we would also like to measure the dispersion orthogonal to the chain direction.
