Since 2003, researchers associated with the Institute for the Study of Protest and Social Movements (Institut für Protest- und Bewegungsforschung, ipb, http://protestinstitut.eu) have conducted surveys at demonstrations. This study is part of this ongoing series. The aim of the study is to gain insights into the composition and attitudes of participants at the “Fridays for Future” demonstrations for climate protection in March 2019 in Berlin, and Bremen. The focus is particularly on socio- demographic characteristics, political attitudes of the respondents encountered at the demonstrations. This survey is part of an international study on the Fridays for Future protests that used the same questionnaire in 13 cities in 9 European countries to survey the protesters at parallel demonstrations taking place worldwide (Wahlström et al. 2019). The demonstrations included in this dataset took place on March 15th in Berlin, and Bremen. The surveyed protests drew between 20,000 (police estimate) and 25,000 (according to the organisers) participants in Berlin, and 5–6,000 (our own count) in Bremen.
The questionnaire consists of the following groups of questions: • Motivation: open question about the motivation to take part in the demonstration • Protest mobilization: knowledge about the demonstration, mobilization network • Political activity: Membership in civil society organizations, past protest activity, forms of action • Political attitudes: evaluation of democracy, trust in institutions, self-placement on the political spectrum, party affiliation, voting tendency • Sociodemographic questions: gender, year of birth, education, occupation
Seit 2003 führen Forscher des Instituts für Protest- und Bewegungsforschung (Institut für Protest- und Bewegungsforschung, ipb, http://protestinstitut.eu) Umfragen bei Demonstrationen durch. Diese Studie ist Teil dieser fortlaufenden Reihe. Ziel der Studie ist es, Einblicke in die Zusammensetzung und Einstellungen der Teilnehmer*innen der „Fridays for Future”-Demonstrationen für Klimaschutz im März 2019 in Berlin und Bremen zu gewinnen. Der Fokus liegt insbesondere auf soziodemografischen Merkmalen und politischen Einstellungen der Befragten, die bei den Demonstrationen angetroffen wurden. Diese Umfrage ist Teil einer internationalen Studie zu den Fridays for Future-Protesten, bei der in 13 Städten in 9 europäischen Ländern derselbe Fragebogen verwendet wurde, um die Demonstranten bei parallel stattfindenden Demonstrationen weltweit zu befragen (Wahlström et al. 2019). Die in diesem Datensatz enthaltenen Demonstrationen fanden am 15. März in Berlin und Bremen statt. Die befragten Proteste zogen zwischen 20.000 (Schätzung der Polizei) und 25.000 (laut Angaben der Organisatoren) Teilnehmer in Berlin und 5–6.000 (unsere eigene Zählung) in Bremen an.
