Since 1985, the training programme for Young Researchers (hereinafter referred to as the YR programme) has been implemented in various forms in Slovenia. The programme focuses on the education of prospective students, who are recognized as the bearers of the development of science and for which the state, therefore, devotes considerable funds. The starting point of the research was to examine how the YR programme accomplishes its goal of building a knowledge society The main purpose was to examine knowledge implementation in practice to determine whether the invested public funds are reimbursed to the society in the long run. Three focus groups and a survey were carried out to analyze the program. The additional objectives of the study were to highlight examples of good practices and areas where the program could be further improved.
