NaYbS2 is yet unexplored material which crystallizes in the delafossite structure with general formula ABX2. The magnetic ions Yb3+ form perfect triangular layers separated by nonmagnetic layers of Na ions. Preliminary thermodynamic characterization shows presence of spin fluctuations according to the Curie-Weiss law with T_CW = -10 K, however no sign of ordering or freezing has been detected down to 0.5 K. By analogy with another Yb-contained material, YbMgGaO4, we believe that NaYbS2 can be considered as a quantum spin liquid candidate. Here we propose to measure polycrystalline sample using thermal neutrons to identify crystal electric field splitting.
