Six microbial mat samples were collected from the active hydrothermal field south of the Columbretes Archipelago during two oceanographic surveys. Scuba divers retrieved the samples from depths of 40 to 44 meters, providing valuable insights into the microbial communities thriving in this unique underwater environment. The surveys aimed to explore the physical and biogeochemical characteristics of this region influenced by active shallow hydrothermal activity.
