EDP Baixo Sabor: Land Birds - Reservoir Filling Phase [2015]

The dataset contains records of land birds (Aves) collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal), in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring (PME) and part of the Compensatory Measures (PMC) Programs of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. This dataset includes results of surveys made in the areas affected in the reservoir filling phase near the dam structures, in March 2015. Sampling was performed in selected points located in the reservoir areas around the dams and I three control points downstream (PME) and in the Vilariça stream (PMC). The bird’s presence and species identification were assessed by visual and/or acoustic observation, with the support of binoculars. The records include taxa identified at the species or genus levels. A total of 23 observation events produced 580 confirmed identifications. The three most abundant species were Serinus serinus (74 observations), Passer domesticus (67) and Turdus merula (39). The land bird monitoring program did not continue after 2015.
