Videos of the two debris floods on the Manival catchment (July 2017)

DOI

These two videos where captured by the Manival upper monitoring station installed by IRSTEA (former name of INRAE) in 2011. It is composed of a rain gauge, a flow level sensor, several geophones, a camera and a datalogger ( Navratil et al., 2011, Bel, 2017, Fontaine et al., 2017, Piton et al., 2017 ). This monitoring station is part of the EOR platform of IGE ( webpage).

On July, 21 and 22, 2017, two flood events occurred under rainfall amount of 67.8 mm and 22 mm, respectively. These videos were reconstructed using every available frames that were originally taken at 1 frame every 4 seconds. The geophone and flow stage signals are dynamically added to the video. The full rainfall intensity time series is also visible. These videos are interesting observations of the high dynamics and transiently changing sediment transport in a steep torrent.
