Evolution of alginate metabolism in Vibrionaceae

Alginate metabolism has a complex history in the Vibrionaceae, marine microbes that are typically found in coastal ecosystems. We show that a rich history of horizontal gene transfer is responsible for the diversification of this metabolic strategy.
