medaka and eel intestine

Teleost in seawater drink constantly and intestine is crucial for absorbing water by rapid removal of ions via absorption and precipitation. The intestinal epithelium changes dramatically in seawater to allow efficient ion and water absorption. A transcriptomic approach was used to search for novel regulatory factors and transporters in the intestine of euryhaline medaka and eel under a time-course seawater transfer.
