Full edition for scientific use. This dataset presents the findings from a comprehensive online survey investigating Austrian voters’ perceptions of political party responses to electoral competition, particularly in the context of populist challengers. Conducted between March 3rd and March 14th, 2023, by the MARKET Institute via a panel of 30000 individuals, the survey achieved a representative sample of 2013 respondents, matching national demographic distributions in terms of gender, age, federal state, and education level. The questionnaire, consisting of 21 questions, explored voter attitudes through various dimensions, including political interest, vote recall, party alignment, and specific policy issues ranging from social welfare to immigration. Additionally, the survey incorporated a vignette experiment to assess reactions to hypothetical political scenarios, gauging the perceived sincerity versus strategic positioning of parties in policy space. The data collection was designed to ensure anonymity and compliance with data protection regulations, providing a labeled and anonymized dataset suitable for in-depth voter-level analyses. This dataset is intended as a Scientific Use File (SUF) for researchers exploring aspects of voter behavior in response to party strategy within the Austrian electoral context.
