Na-Ion Dynamics in the Solid Solution Battery Compound Ca[1-x]Na[x]Cr2O4

DOI

Here we propose a u+SR investigation on the solid solution Cax-1NaxCr2O4, a Q1D zigzag chain compound where Na+ ions are allocated in the hexagonal one-dimensional channels designed by the Cr-O-Cr common corners among the chains. From the applied science point of view in the sustainable energy materials framework, NaCr2O4 could be a possible sodium battery compound, for its similarities with the battery cathode material LiFePO4. The investigation of the latter aspect is the target of the proposed experiment, since we aim to study the Na-ion diffusion in 1D channels in the solid solution Cax-1NaxCr2O4 as a function of the Na content, in order to understand how the presence of defects along the 1D chains affects the ion dynamics. These outcomes would also complete the picture of the results already obtained in ISIS for related compounds.
