A Three-dimensional Jahn-Teller distorted Metal-Oxalato-Framework

DOI

Muon spin relaxation will be used to study the low temperature magnetic properties of a new metal-oxalato-framework compound [(C2H5)3NH]2Cu2(C2O4)3. This has a three-dimensional network structure with a Jahn-Teller distorted arrangement of oxalate ligands surrounding the Cu ions. Magnetic measurements show a rather complicated magnetic behaviour down to 2K, but no clear indication of long range magnetic order. Preliminary musr measurements taken down to 1.8 K confirm the lack of magnetic ordering. However the relaxation parameters indicate some slowing down of magnetic fluctuations, with electronic relaxation becoming observable below 10 K, a likely precursor to magnetic ordering at much lower temperature. This proposal extends the measurements down to the dilution fridge temperature range in order to find this suggested transition and study the critical behaviour associated with it.
