This dataset gives estimates of the woody above-ground biomass (AGB) of the savannahs and woodlands of continental Africa and Madagascar at a 25 meters spatial resolution, obtained from the 2010 ALOS PALSAR mosaic produced by the Japanese Space Exploration Agency (JAXA).AGB is estimated between 0 and 85 Mg.ha-1 following the methodology described in the referenced publication. The following land cover classes have been masked:- Dense forests and flooded forests, using classes 50 (Dense forests) and 160 (Flooded forests) of the ESA CCI Land Cover dataset: https://www.esa-landcover-cci.org/- Mangroves, using the GMW (Global Mangrove Watch) dataset: https://www.globalmangrovewatch.org/- Urban areas, using the HBASE (Human Built-Up and Settlement Extent) dataset: http://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu/data/set/ulandsat-hbase-v1- Water bodies, using the GSW (Global Surface Waters) dataset: https://global-surface-water.appspot.com/The data can be used for a wide range of applications, from conservation to carbon accounting. .The dataset is divided into 10° × 10° tiles. The file names give the coordinates of the upper left corner of each tile (in degrees latitude and longitude). An additional file is provided: AGB_Bouvet_QGIS_style.qml, which is a QGis style file to visualize the AGB dataset in the QGis software.Year of estimate: 2010Projection: Geographic Lat/LonGeodetic Datum: WGS-84Data type: ByteFile type: Geotiff (LZW compression)Pixel size : 0.8 arcseconds × 0.8 arcseconds (approximately 25m × 25m at Equator)Pixel value:- 0 to 85: AGB in tons/ha- 100: dense forests mask- 160: flooded forests mask- 170: mangroves mask- 190: urban areas mask- 210: water bodies mask
