We request 10 days on TOSCA to carry out inelastic neutron scattering (INS) study of a multifunctional catalyst (Pd/MoO3) for the one-step isomerization in the hydrodeoxygenation of furan-derived adducts to liquid alkanes as fuels. This proposed study will investigate the vibrational spectroscopy of the catalyst and their interaction with guest molecules upon binding to the surface. In particular, this study aims to reveal the role of exposed OH/COC groups on the catalyst surface in the reactions. This recently-discovered catalyst exhibits extremely high selectivity for the one-step isomerization and hydrodeoxygenation of furan-derived adducts into high-value liquid fuels (e.g., ethylcyclohexane, 2-methylheptane), which have tremendous potential market value.
