Rpv2 is part of a cluster of NLRs specific to Vitis rotundifolia and confers extreme resistance to grapevine downy mildew

DOI

Rpv2, a resistance gene against grapevine downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola), was studied to uncover its molecular basis and impact on pathogen development. Through genetic mapping and comparative genomics—including a new assembly of the Vitis rotundifolia Regale genome—researchers narrowed Rpv2 to a 250 kb region containing two unique NLR-type resistance genes not found in other Vitis species. Rpv2 triggers early pathogen arrest, confirming its role as an NLR gene and highlighting its potential—and limits—for use in breeding durable mildew-resistant grapevine varieties.

This dataset contains two files, a fasta file “.fa” containing the contigs of the Vitis rotundifolia cv Regale genome assembly and a “.gff3” file containing the genes annotations. The raw data used to generate the assembly (PacBio RS II data) and to generate the annotations (Illumina RNAseq data to generate the transcriptome used to annotate the genes) are available on ENA-EBI (https://www.ebi.ac.uk/ena/browser/view/PRJEB77732)
