Temporal transcriptional (mRNA and miRNA) responses of European shore crab to White Spot Syndrome Virus

European shore crab (Carcinus maenas) were injected with either White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV)-infected shrimp homogenate or sterline saline. Gill tissue was sampled from four crabs in each treatment group at 6, 12, 24, 48, 168, 336 and 672 hours post injection (hpi). Transcriptomic responses were analysed using RNA-seq and microRNA-seq on an Illumina HiSeq 2500. The aim was to identify transcriptional responses of a species with high recalcitrance to White Spot Disease.
