Sample preparation and laboratory measurement values for in-situ meteoric Beryllium 10 concentrations before and after Hurricane Maria in Dominica and the percent difference between the two time periods

DOI

Comments:1) July 2017 refers to samples collected before Hurricane Maria and January 2018 refers to samples collected after Hurricane Maria.2) 2017 samples were measured at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and 2018 samples were measured at Purdue Rare Isotope Measurement (PRIME) Laboratory. Ratios from both laboratories were normalized against standard 07KNSTD3110 with an assumed ratio of 2.85 x 10^v12 (Nishiizumi et al., 2007).3) Samples were corrected for backgrounds using 5 blanks (2017 set) and 2 blanks (2018 set) that were processed and analyzed along with the samples. We corrected samples ratios by subtracting the average ratio of the blanks (2017: 6.39 x 10^-16 and 2018: 3.88 x 10^-16). Because the agreement between the blanks was unrealistically close (STDEV = 1.26 x 10^-16 (2017) and 0.10 x 10^-16 (2018), we used a blank uncertainty based on the best possible statistical precision based on the number of 10Be counts (2017: 1.51 x 10^-16 and 2018: 1.37 x 10^-16). Sample uncertainties and blank uncertainties were propagated in quadrature. See doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.918099.4) Percent difference equals (after-hurricane measurement – before-hurricane measurement)/((after-hurricane measurement + before-hurricane measurement)/2)*100.
