Characterization of the texture properties of Euro coins as a function of mint place and time

DOI

This work intends to see if a diffraction technique is able to distinguish between coins minted in different places. All the physical properties of euro coins were restricted by BCE, and successively by vending machine consortium, bringing to a very tight definition of the composing alloy, so that all the main physical properties are exactly the same for all the coins of the same amount. Thus, as the main physical properties are independent from the pressure applied for minting in this peculiar alloy, the only difference, if present, should be detectable in the texture level.
