A number of studies have determined that non-ionic surfactants are capable of altering diffusion rates and transportation of both water and active ingredients thorough the waxy ?barrier? of various crops, manipulating their morphology and structural integrity.By measuring the diffusivity and observing the change in the wax inelastic scattering with temperature, QENS will allow us to further observe changes in the morphology and role of the various wax components at different temperatures and moisture conditions. QENS would therefore allow us to investigate the conditions which affect the behaviour, structure and mobility of the major components which make up a large proportion of cuticular waxes. This will in turn allow us understand how surfactants help promote the transport of water and active ingredients into the plant.
