PROBING THE NEAR AND INTERMEDIATE RANGE NANOSTRUCTURE OF DNA/PEPTIDE HYDROGELS

DOI

The near- and intermediate-range order within peptide and peptide/DNA hydrogels will be probed across the q range available on NIMROD. Samples will be prepared in H2O/D2O solvent mixtures in order to contrast match either peptide or DNA. Of particular interest is the ordering within fibril-forming peptides such as the octapeptide EFL4FE [E: glutamic acid, F: phenylalanine, L: leucine] for which fibre X-ray diffraction shows a high level of crystalline order. A range of related octapeptide hydrogels, and hydrogels formed in mixtures of these peptides with calf thymus DNA will be examined.
