Studies on the magnetic properties of atacamite, Cu2Cl(OH)3, at low temperatures have revealed a behavior which is characteristic for frustrated magnetic systems. The results of attempts to determine the magnetic ground state of this material, however, have been contradictory and, so far, a magnetic structure determination by means of elastic neutron diffraction was lacking. For this reason, we have addressed this issue in our proposal no. 17105097 (beamtime scheduled: Feb 28 - Mar 08 2017) and are presently carrying out the corresponding experiment from which we will be able to determine the ordered magnetic structure of atacamite in zero magnetic field. We now wish to study the in-field behavior of atacamite, which seems unusual from magnetization measurement previously carried out. Thus, we propose to carry out an elastic neutron diffraction measurement aimed at determining the in-field magnetic structure of atacamite.
