The Energy Demand Research Project (EDRP) was a major set of trials, designed to help better understand how domestic consumers react to improved information about their energy consumption over the long term. Energy suppliers carried out trials across Great Britain, incorporating different combinations of measures, and explored the responses of approximately 60,000 different households, including around 18,000 with smart-type meters, over a period of around two years. The majority of the trials began in late 2007 or early 2008 and the trials finished towards the end of 2010. The anonymised sample in this release includes just over 14,000 households.

Main Topics:

The data cover energy efficiency, Smart Meters and energy consumption in households in Great Britain. Smart meter readings were collected every 30 minutes.Users should note that there are two download zip files for this study, due to the size of the datasets. One file (7591elec) contains the electricity data and the other (7591gas) contains the gas data. To obtain the complete study, both files should be downloaded.

A mixture of sampling procedures were employed in the trials; see documentation for details.

Physical measurements

The data are primarily taken from existing administrative systems.
