Detailled analysis and understanding of magnetic relaxation in f-block systems requires systems with high local symmetry to facilitate ligand field parametrization. Among the most ubiquitous lanthanide complexes are those of the DOTA ligand and DOTA-derived ligands. Hitherto, none of these have met the high-symmetry criterion, but we have recently developed two, unpublished classes of tetragonal lanthanide-DOTA complexes. We propose to screen select members of these classes to establish the most promising ones for more extensive INS studies. In casu, we would like to study two Dy-DOTA complexes with trans-[CrF2py4]+ and trans-[CrF2py4]+ as axial ligands coordinating to dysprosium through a fluoride bridge.
