Data in "Currents and their Drivers in the Archipelago Sea: Insights from ADCP measurements “ by Kanarik et al. (2025)

DOI

This dataset includes ADCP (Acoustic Doppler current profiler) measurements from the Archipelago Sea, Baltic Sea from 13 different deployments between 2004 - 2022. Results based on these measurements are published in article "Currents and their Drivers in the Archipelago Sea: Insights from ADCP measurements" by Kanarik et al. 2025 and for ADCP_Lov13.csv also in Kanarik et al., 2018.

Measurements were conducted by the Finnish Institute of Marine Research (2004 –2006), Finnish Meteorological Institute (2013 – 2022) and with support from the national Finnish Marine Research Infrastructure (FINMARI) consortium and the Finnish Ministry of the Environment (Water Protection Programme 2019–2023).

Measurements are done using bottom-mounted 300 kHz Workhorse Sentinel ADCP by Teledyne RD Instruments. For detailed information on the exact quality control procedure and the threshold values used, see Kanarik et al. (2018, Section 3, https://doi.org/10.3390/jmse6040122). For information on possible quality issues or the description of the measurement site, see Kanarik et al. (2025).

Datasets from 14 different deployments from 10 different locations listed in Kanarik et al. (2025, Table 1). Datasets are named after the station ID (Table 1) as ADCP_ID.csv. Files include values of current magnitude, direction and U and V components at each measurement depth as well as the measured pressure (depth) at deployment depth from the seafloor. Additional measurements of temperature at the deployment depth, current W component and quality information values are available upon request.
