This dataset provides loss-on-ignition (LOI) data for the MIS-5a sediment sequence retrieved from Sokli (Finland) in 2010. LOI values are expressed as percentages and presented against depth (m). The LOI dataset was used to provide information on MIS-5a landscape dynamics at Sokli (Helmens et al., 2021). A total of 24 samples were analysed for LOI. Samples of 1.5 to 10.1 g wet weight (average=4.1 g) were heated to 105°C until a constant (dry) weight was achieved. Thereafter, samples were placed in a furnace at 550 °C for 4 hrs and at 950 °C for 2 hours. Loss-on-ignition was calculated by comparing the dry weight of the samples before and after combustion following Heiri et al. (2001) and results are expressed as a percentage. The analyses were performed in the laboratories of the University of Helsinki, Finland.
Further funding was provided by SKB (Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company) and the Bolin Centre for Climate Research.
