Room temperature ferromagnetic/ferroelectric ordering in BaTiO3 - BiFeO3 - PbTiO3

DOI

There are very few genuine claims of materials that are ferroelectric and ferromagnetic at room temperature. In This proposal we will study both textured and non texture BaTiO3 - BiFeO3 - PbTiO3, for BaTiO3 concentrations <=20%. We have shown using conventional electrical and magnetic measurements, that this system is piezoelectric, ferroelectric and ferromagnetic at room temperature. By collecting data as a function of composition and temperature, we will solve the nuclear and magnetic structures, and map generate a phase diagram. We anticipate, as is the case in many solid solutions, a region of coexistence of ferromagnetic and antiferroelectric ordering. All the materials probed are ferroelectric.Probing textured materials will allow us to correlate magnetic and ferroelectric ordering with conventional measurements.
